Embracing the Change
The days of publications with cheap/thin paper and informative short content are done. It’s about a boutique magazine style – better quality, specialized stories. The idea of print for us is experiential, a special relationship between the reader and the medium. We believe reading a meaningful story tangible in your hands correlates to the comeback of vinyl. It’s in the same realm as holding and cherishing a record cover while listening to your favorite record spin on the turntable.

Passionate Distribution
Distribution is as important as the ink on the paper. We are the best locally delivered magazine ever. Period. The publisher – yes, the publisher himself – delivers South Bay Standard. He brings over 15 years hands-on delivery experience, fine-tuning and forever evolving route. We don’t outsource distribution to a third party.
Curated Advertisers
We keep it simple. Our advertisers are just as much a part of the magazine reading experience as the editorial content. We purposely keep our prices low in comparison to South Bay Magazine ($2,000-$6,000) so that we can invite the businesses that add to the culture of the magazine – not 30-plus pages of vanity real estate and wealth advisors ads, typical of our competitors. Humble and authentic, we want to keep our pricing comparable to paying for 17,000 direct mail without the cost of distribution.

Welcome to South Bay Standard Issue
Our hands-on approach to circulation enables us to make changes to routes and distribution points based on the needs of our advertisers. This means we are more adept at connecting with our target audience. Bolstered by social media promotion from our advertisers, together we can connect with our target market. It’s a communal effort. Rising tides raise all ships as we all contribute to some degree in reaching our target market. As for what that target market is, in a traditional sense – we are not really chasing a certain age or socioeconomic demographic. We think our content is timeless and will be quintessential South Bay, a little something for everybody. From that grey-haired punk rocker to the upstart small business owner, from the Tik-Tok driven young surfer to the retired aerospace engineer, our readers will be as quietly diverse as the South Bay itself. For those new to the area, South Bay Standard will fortify why they moved here in the first place. For longtime locals, it’s our South Bay affirmation
The South Bay Standard team was previously known as Salt Media Co. We began by publishing magazines for the BeachLife Festival, the El Segundo Art Walk, and the South Bay Boardriders Club. While we published beautiful magazines for these organizations, content was centered around these events. Although these are all significant South Bay cultural events, we were attached editorially to a more promotional mission. In the decade of publishing for other people, we came to the conclusion that the South Bay needed a new voice. One grounded in the past, yet forging ahead into the future. Editorial content that’s unexpected yet accessible, woven together by a tapestry of South Bay cultural threads.
